I rated the movie okay. It wasn't crummy, but still it was hardly worth it. Mainly I guess just to see this particular telling of the classic story. I understand the suspension of disbelief thing, but as Miraenda wrote in her review, there was too much that was just nonsense. I have to disagree with Miraenda on the ending though. That seemed to be the only good point in the whole movie... the idea that as humans we've built up immunities over millions of years to virus's and bacteria found on Earth... something no alien invader could possibly do. On the flip side of that though, the idea that a completely alien lifeform would threatened by the same virus's that threaten humans is quite improbable. Oh well. Taken one scene at a time the movie was pretty good. Put them all together in a movie and it was hardly worth seeing.
I rated it on the higher end of decent (7). Special effects were good.
WARNING: Anyone who hasn't seen this movie yet, DO NOT read on!!
The little girl was a bit irritating in the beginning with all that screaming while they were in the car, and she yelling for her Mom seemed a bit unreasonable.
The ending where the son shows up at the house was a bit hard to believe, cuz that entire hill was totally annihilated, so there was no way he would have survived it. Also, that bit where Tom Cruise feels he has to kill Tim Robbins was strange to me.
Although not a great movie, I still have no regrets going to see it
