Hostage

Hostage posterI saw this film on my birthday, March 28 2005 at 6:50pm at Sycamore Mall, and it was a good pick at the time since some of the even better films of the year had not yet been released.

The film stars Bruce Willis in a role he has played frequently--a law enforcement official. He starts out the movie as the hostage negotiator and the first scene lays the path for what will follow. He changes that job and moves to another quieter community. He and his family are having some troubles as well. All of these will tie in together and highlight the daunting task he is going to have to face.

The film handles the idea well of a man torn between saving his family and protecting another family. The acting is all around well done and the script is pretty good. I don't think this was a big stretch for Bruce Willis to play, however, he did his regular good job of showing a man who cares about others and is trying to be the good guy while appearing to be the bad guy (to the audience at least throughout most of the movie). The action scenes are also pretty well done, so all around a good try.

I am rating this one as good due to how well everything fits together from the script to the scenes to the acting. The movie has some on your edge scenes and some surprises with a feel good ending, but it isn't really awe inspiring enough to be great.

Please feel free to comment on this review or on the movie itself at the forum thread devoted to it at this location.
