Well, it's about time, I say!! Sheesh, I can rent these movies on DVD by the time you get these reviews done!
Okay, I've already given my views on this in Ron's thread about this movie (see, your members have to create the threads before you get around to it , and they do it in the wrong section of the forum, too, so if you don't want them to keep doing that, you best do the reviews before them !!)
Yeah, but mine has a poll, so it is way cooler than Ron's thread
Reading your review, we agree in general... it wasn't all that great a movie. I did like the new Willy Wonka though. It did take some getting used to, but he was a more complex character, and for that I liked it.
Okay... now that we actually have a review thread for this movie, here is my original "review".
========================================== I finally got around to seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Saw it last night on the IMAX. I have to say I wasn't overly impressed. I don't know what I expected. I guess something of the caliber of Edward Scissor Hands or The Nightmare Before Christmas. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory definitely was not of that caliber though. It wasn't a total flop. There were some stunning visuals, and I really liked Burton's Willy Wonka, (and Johnny Depp did a great job with the character), but beyond that I was not overly impressed. I think Burton stuck too close to the original. He changed the story line a little, (but not much, and I don't think it was any better than the original story line except for a bit of childhood history about Willy Wonka), and the character of Willy Wonka, but he stayed true to the irritatingly corny style of the original. I would have preferred a more serious artistic interpretation. Keep the original story line with the added childhood history of Wonka, keep the Burton Wonka, and then give the whole thing a more realistic feel... that might have been a great movie. As it stands now, it's just an okay movie. ===========================================
